Kent's Comments:

Day 1:
s-1: Trail until I saw the reentrant. Turned straight down the hill.
1-2: Straight. The hill (ridge) was much smaller (less contours) than
mapped. Still no problem. 2-3: Interesting route choice. I decided to
take the left route as it was closer to the line. It turned out that the
fight extended much further, so I probably lost 1 min or more by this
choice. 3-4: Straight to the first large meadow. Left and around the
hill to the next meadow. Followed the meadow to the north to the
southern edge of the fight where I crossed the road and climbed straight
up. Ran to the left of the fight, then to the clearing with trail
crossing, to the next clearing to the end and in to the control. This
was one of the legs where could not crank up the speed, even though the
navigation was easy. 4-5: Bad route choice again. I went back to the
trail. It seems that I lost at least 1 min on this choice. 5-6: Down to
the road. Followed it to the fork and beyond to the trail leading north.
Crossed the road and the ridge. Down to the large reentrant. Here I
picked up what I thought was the trail which was supposed to curve to
the north, just before the control. It turned out, that I had picked up
an unmapped trail which merged with the trail further down the
reentrant. I ended up at the large trail ~ 250 m to the east of the
control. Back tracked from there and had no problem finding the control.
Lost ~5 min. 6-7: West to trail. Followed it to the clearing leading
west. Followed the clearing then compass bearing to the knoll just left
of the line. Then down to the control. It might have been faster taking
the trail all the way, and then climb up. I could not see the trail
through the fight and rock/cliff formations. 7-8: Straight. Passed the
clearing. Intended to hit the trail a bit low to maximize trail run.
Ended up hitting the trail close to the dry creek. Easy to find control
from there. This was another leg where my running was weak. 8-9: Down to
road. Road to dry creek, then over knoll with rocks and straight to
control. Straight, read off trails. 9-10: Rounded the reentrant way to
the right. In retrospect, should have gone straight or possibly straight
to the north to the trail. I probably lost 30 sec here. Lost a total of
~7-8 min.

Day2:
s-1: Trails to the south, then east and over the saddle and east to the
control area. I immediately hit Blue 1 and had two reactions. First,
this looks like the correct feature, or must be very close. Why are two
similar features so close? Second reaction was that maybe the code was
incorrect. I proceeded searching the immediate area without finding
another bag. At this point I considered the possibility that I was in
the area 40-50m to the south west. In particular, I considered that the
bag I found might be in of the northern most pits of that area. So I ran
to the north/east about 50 m when I came to the trail. That made me draw
the conclusion that I was in the right place. I went back and proceeded
to control 2 without finding Red 1. (Punched Blue 1). Lost ~ 5 min (and
the control) 1-2: Went south along the edge of the green, then crossed
east and in to the control area. I came in further north than I intended
to. As a result, I hit Blue 2 (code 152). My first reaction was to
wonder if the control code was wrong again. (152/172) However, I felt
that I was too far to the north so I proceeded south and found my
control. I believe that this area could have been mapped much
differently, although it’s not easy to map it well. Lost ~ 2-3 min. 2-3:
Straight to the trail, to the clearing, through the clearing to the
control. 3-4: Fun control. Compass, pace count and tried to read off
features. Simplified the map which caused me to keep going until up on
the ridge. Ended up further to the north than planned. Hesitated but saw
the fight to the north and proceeded to the control. Lost 30 sec. 4-5:
Did not see trail to the right. Ran straight until trail just before
control. Knew that I was a little to the left and read off subtle topo
features. Still overran the control by 20 m. 5-6: Trail to the left
until bend. Then clearing and straight towards control. Ended up in
clearing north of control close to rock wall. Steered back and found
control. 6-7: Followed line to road across damm, to fork to the south
then across clearing and towards control. Rounded intermediate ridge and
climbed up to the right of control. Turned left as it flattened out a
little. 7-8: Contoured, over knoll and down to control. Saw a streamer
on rocks above, hesitated a little. 8-9: Contoured, for a moment reading
from 9 to 10, before realizing the error. As the strategy was the same,
did not loose time. Ended up on the rocks to the left of control, turned
up the ridge to the control. 9-10: Contoured all the way. 10-11:
Contoured, through old quarry marked with yellow. Picked up deer trail
contouring. Hit trails where they merge. Continued trail through
clearing, left after trail fork through clearing. Followed dry creek on
left side making sure to not drop down too much at the end. Hit control
perfectly. 11-12: Decided on running down to the north, to trails and
road. Did not execute the plan real well. First problem was that I did
not see small trail which made a shortcut where large trail did a switch
back. Lost 1 min here. Then hesitated coming in to the control from the
north. 12-13: Straight, read off features as I went. Just before control
I picked up reentrants and trail east of control. Ended up looking
higher than control was located, but saw water jugs below me. As it
turned out, the control was next to the trail. This did not seem right,
but I didn’t loose any time. 13-14: North west to road. As I turned back
south to the control, accidently ran past the trail and up into the
drive way of a house. Turned back to the trail and the control. Lost 30
sec. All in all lost ~8-9 min.
