In sunny and hot weather and a pleasant breeze, the first Egg-O went very well. Many of the participants tried this sport for the first time and eventually did all four courses. The kids often ran several times on the same course before moving up. The pink course asked for the right choice among several controls in the same area as well as for correct mapping of controls seen along the route. These features helped to prevent even the good orienteers from mindless trail running.
On the short and long Start-O, the ages and the amount of adult help are widely divergent, and most repeat runs are not noted. I apologize for the "un-competitive spirit" on my part and also some overwhelmedness by waves of very enthusiastic and impatient youngsters.
A good time was had by all, thanks to the speedy and reliable registration of Jean and Ev Beuerman, start and finish help by Mike Poulsen and Roy Want as well as girl scout Tina Leung of San Jose. Many thanks also to Tony Pinkham for his very vigorous support in mapping, corrections, and feedback.
