A great turnout on a beautiful, warm Labor Day weekend – 222 participants attended the Presidio O' – many for the first time. Families, friends, novices and experts all had a great time based on the feedback. Even the Park police want to join us at our next event for training.
The new location caused some confusion for a few, but signs and the crowd got things straightened out quickly. Unfortunately, there was some mischief on the course. Someone removed Yellow 3, Orange 2 (#117) and placed it near Long Orange 7. Both were in well-separated ruins, but apparently the home of the homeless. The situation was corrected soon thanks to George Minarik, who discovered the mischief. We gave credit for all those punches.
Chuck Spalding, who helped with tallying the Results (along with Marsha Jacobs and Leif Kirschenbaum) and wrote the report (many thanks), noted some mispunches. This may have occurred because of controls close to one another in one instance or just inexperienced or zealous orienteers. This may have disqualified some, but most seemed to manage just fine. Just a note that because the Presidio is an urban park, the meet director’s notes emphasized the map and course condition and changes ("Be alert and make do.").
